Bambora Safety Testing

Bambora slings are independently tested by a CPSC-accepted third-party laboratory against the US safety standards written specifically for sling carriers — then checked by hand, unit by unit, before they ship.

We don't spot-check batches. We check every one.

The standard practice in this industry is batch sampling: pull a handful of units from a run of thousands, inspect those, and ship the rest on the strength of the sample.

We don't do that. Every Bambora sling is physically inspected before it's packed. Stitching, seams, webbing, buckle function, and strap retention on that specific carrier. Everything is checked.

The standards we hold

Bambora sling Carriers are independently tested by a CPSC-accepted third-party laboratory against the US safety standards written specifically for sling carriers, then checked by hand, unit by unit, before they ship.

ASTM F2907

Consumer Safety Specification for Sling Carriers

The standard written specifically for slings. Covers load-bearing structural integrity, leg openings, fastener strength, strap retention and shoulder strap slippage.

ASTM F2236

Soft Infant and Toddler Carriers

The broader soft-carrier standard. Adds monofilament thread, latching and locking, and textile flammability requirements on top of structural performance.

ASTM F963

Toy Safety - physical, mechanical and material

Use-and-abuse testing: torque, tension and impact. Plus flammability and soluble heavy elements in every material used.

16 CFR 1500.48/.49

Sharp points and sharp edges

No hazardous points or edges accessible to a child, before or after use-and-abuse testing.

16 CFR 1501

Small parts rule

Nothing on the carrier can come free and become a choking, aspiration or ingestion hazard — tested after the abuse cycle, not just out of the box.

16 CFR 1610

Flammability of clothing textiles

Class 1 — the highest classification. Measured burn rate of 0.03 in/sec against a limit of 0.10 in/sec.

CPSIA 101, 108

Lead content and phthalates

Every material tested for total lead and for eight restricted phthalates. Nothing detected in any of them.

16 CFR 1130

Durable infant product registration

Our carrier is registered as a durable infant or toddler product, with a registration form and record-keeping so we can reach you directly if we ever need to.

CPSIA 103

Tracking labels

A permanent tracking label on every carrier identifies its production date and batch. That's what makes traceability real rather than a claim.

Your baby's face is going to be pressed against this.

So we don't stop at the US chemical requirements. Our fabrics and hardware are also screened against the European REACH list, which is stricter and far longer.

  • Heavy metals and flame retardants

screened under RoHS — lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, PBBs and PBDEs. All below detection.

  • Lead testing

Not just "under the limit" — Not detected at all, in any tested material.

  • Restricted phthalates tested

DEHP, DBP, BBP, DINP, DIBP, DPENP, DHEXP, DCHP. None detected.

  • High Concern Substances Tested

under the REACH candidate list. None detected.

Top 5 Things Parents Ask

Will the seams hold?

Structural integrity is tested under both static and dynamic load — steady weight and repeated movement — with no seam or panel failure.

Will the buckle open on its own?

Fastener strength and strap retention are tested to make sure the buckle holds under load and the webbing cannot pull free of it.

Will the strap slip while I'm wearing it?

Shoulder strap slippage is tested under load, so the adjustment you set is the adjustment that stays set.

Are the leg openings the right size?

Leg opening dimensions are tested against the sling carrier standard to guard against a child slipping through.

Is anything on it going to come off?

Torque, tension and impact testing is run first, then the carrier is re-checked for small parts, sharp points and sharp edges.

Everything on this page applies to a real Bambora.

There are look-alike slings sold on marketplaces that copy our product photography and our shape. They have not been through this testing, and we have no way to stand behind them.

A genuine Bambora carries our branding on the product and the packaging, and a permanent tracking label with a production date and batch. If you received something without them, contact us — we'll make it right, and we'd like to know where it came from.
